Disabilities and Health Expectancy in Mexico

The MHAS survey offers the opportunity to depict detailed and updated disability conditions and health expectancies in Mexico. An overall description comes from active life expectancies estimated by the ability to carry out ADL and IADL, and also by mental conditions, differentiated by sex and socio-economic status. To this initial framework the presence of diabetes, hypertension, cancer, cerebral stroke, arthritis, hearth and respiratory diseases are included as conditioning causes and measured as risks factors for other disabilities. A socio-economic determinant is the limited access to medical care. The 50+ population divided by age, sex, and schooling is categorized by health and disability status and assessed by life expectancies as active and healthy, active but with chronic diseases, and with ailments and disabilities.
